M&S OGIER D'AMPUIS "Viognier de Rosine" Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes,
Rhone,France

產區/Region: Rhone

品種/Grapes:100% Viognier

Testing note :

Viognier - Relatively challenging to cultivate, this white grape's plantings were long limited to two appellations in the Northern Rhône - Condrieu, the better known of the two, and Château-Grillet - but its recent gains in popularity inspired plantings in the Languedoc-Roussillon, across California, as well as in parts of Australia, Italy, Spain and South America. Intensely aromatic and full-bodied, Viognier is prized for its aromas and flavors of stone fruits, d'Anjou pears and white flowers. In fact, its heady perfume wins it the honor of being a rare white varietal used in one of the world's top reds - Côte-Rôtie - where it is often planted amid the Syrah and co-fermented with that grape. The combination deepens the color of Côte-Rôtie and adds to its already deep and distinctive nose.

M&S OGIER D'AMPUIS

Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes is the Vin de Pays de Zone title for red, white and rose wines from an area which essentially corresponds to the northern Rhone Valley wine region of eastern France. The catchment area for this Vin de Pays (VDP) title stretches to Die in the east and as far south as Valence, the home of Cornas and Saint-Peray.
Unsurprisingly, given the area from which it comes, a large proportion of VDP des Collines Rhodaniennes wine is made from the key northern Rhone grape varieties. Syrah is widely planted here and is often complemented with a small addition of Viognier (the classic Cote Rotie blend), but Gamay also plays an important role. Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon complete the 'international' grape repertoire, borrowed from Burgundy and Bordeaux respectively.
Share you photo with us VDP des Collines Rhodaniennes white wines (which have a much smaller representation than the reds) are dominated by the globally popular Chardonnay in league with the key Rhone varieties Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne. The white specialty grape of Savoie is also used here; Jacquere makes an appearance exclusively in VDP des Collines Rhodaniennes wines made in the Isere department.
The VDP des Collines Rhodaniennes landscape is characterized by hills and valleys. The Massif Central lies to the west and the embryonic foothills of the Alps to the east, with the Rhone river carving its way through the sandstone, limestone and granite between them. The presence of these different stone types is reflected in the route of the Rhone. Sandstone and limestone provide less resistance than granite, which visibly alters the path of the river. The bend around the granite hill of Hermitage is a prime example of this.
This topography – and the geology which created it – makes for a complex patchwork of terroirs. The local continental climate means warm, dry summers and cold winters, influenced by the strong winds, such as the Mistral, which bowls down the Rhone at speeds of up to 55mph (90km/h).
As it falls within the catchment area of both the Vin de Pays des Portes de Mediterranee and the Vin de Pays des Comtes Rhodaniens, any VDP des Collines Rhodaniennes wine may be sold under these alternative, regional VDP titles.

In 2009, the Vin de Pays (VDP) title in force since the 1970s was supplemented with Indication Geographique Protegee (IGP) – its EU equivalent. French wine authorities have actively promoted the use of IGP, which acts as a legal statement of quality and origin throughout the eurozone. Wine producers retain the right to use either title.
